Before
The scheme will provide 23 new flats. Councillors have insisted on strict controls to protect the historic water wheel and mill race on the River Loxley side of the building.
The final scheme will mean a new lease of life for one of the valley's most important historic buildings, and will spruce up this important 'gateway' to the Loxley Valley. Planners have insisted the building is restored to the high standard
During Construction
Situated at the junction of Loxley Road and Stannington Road in Malin Bridge, the Corn Mill has stood unused for many years but is now undergoing redevelopment, combining a mixture of refurbishment of existing buildings and construction of new units to provide 23 two bedroom apartments. Clad in new Spanish slates, the existing roofs blend with their newbuild neighbours to give a pleasing appearance. The age of the existing timbers resulted in the need to accommodate changes in roof plane and undulations in along the roof, which our operatives overcame by the use of accurate trimming of slates at eaves and down the roof slope. The photograph of the existing building shows where we have constructed a mitred joint down the slating and installed lead soakers. Can you spot it in the image below?
