Roof slates

Roof Slating

Slate is a metamorphic rock. it is impermeable, hard, fine grained, quick drying, frost resistant and splits easily into thin leaves which are perfect for roofing applications.

The quality and type of tile varies across the country, there are variations in naturally formed and manmade slates. There are manmade imitations of stone slates made from moulded concrete, as well as slate imitations made from slate dust, glass fibre and a mix of fibre and cement. Slate was most popular during Victorian and Edwardian periods and is one of the most expensive options often used in heritage work. Stone slates are the most expensive to buy and lay, they are enormously heavy and required skilled handling and fixing.
